ERP will be the backbone of your enterprise operations and data capabilities; the fountainhead for data warehousing, Business Intelligence, and any other data-dependent advanced planning and management activity.

If you don't successfully evaluate, select, and manage this system you'll be at a disadvantage with any higher-tier projects you want to undertake in the future.

Customer Relationship Management 6P Summary
Up to 80% of Customer Relationship Management implementations fail to provide the value and benefits that were expected at the inception of the project.  The fault doesn't usually lie with the software, but with a lack of coherent planning as well as faulty assumptions and over-ambitious expectations.

The move to CRM starts with a strategic decision as to how the system will be used for the betterment of the enterprise.  There can be many answers to this question but it's important that there be consensus and agreement as to the approach to be taken.

What are 6P Summaries?

When you're contemplating a new software investment there are many resources you can access to get information about the industry segment, the prominent players, even the strengths and weaknesses of each candidate. You can pay hundreds, even thousands of dollars for a Forrester Wave report or one of Gartner's Magic Quadrants and each of these will give you excellent information about the products that you're interested in. What neither of these will give you is any idea as to whether or not you're ready to take on such a project.

It's an unfortunate reality that many implementation projects fail every year. Many of those failures could be prevented if only the right questions were asked at the outset, before any egos were inextricably invested or real money committed.

The purpose of 6P Summaries is to raise some pertinent points that should be considered before launching full-scale into a project for which you may be ill prepared. The Summary doesn't ask specific questions, it merely points out some considerations that should be taken into account during the evaluation phase of the project.

Each 6P Summary is 6 pages long and the 6 "Ps" are: Product, Promise, Position, Pitfalls, Preparation, and Prognosis.

The aim of the 6P Summary is to stimulate the type of thought processes that are presented in the Project Portfolio Excellence model.

The list of topics for 6P Summaries will expand in the future.
